Poplar Grove Practice in Aylesbury, Haddenham Medical Centre in Haddenham and John Hampden Surgery in Prestwood have all been presented with the Investors in Carers GP Standard award from Carers Bucks in recognition of the extra support they offer to unpaid carers who are registered with their surgeries.
In order to receive their awards, the surgeries needed to meet certain criteria set by Carers Bucks, which ranged from appointing a dedicated Carers Champion from within the surgery, increasing numbers on the surgery’s carers register, ensuring at least 50% of practice staff had attended a carer awareness training session, and demonstrating an understanding of the challenges faced by carers, for example, by offering flexible appointments where possible.
The awards were presented to the surgeries during a celebration event held by Carers Bucks at The Holiday Inn in Aylesbury on Thursday 14 September:

A panel made up of representatives from Carers Bucks, Bucks County Council and the Clinical Commissioning Group had unanimously agreed that these surgeries had reached the required level and they were on hand to celebrate the practices’ excellent achievements, along with the local Care Quality Commission inspector.
Pat Randell, a former carer who sat on the panel on behalf of Carers Bucks, told the award winners that the work they had done to support patients within their surgeries was fantastic and that she hoped other practices in Buckinghamshire would now follow their example so that every carer’s experience could be improved.
