Telecare is a term that describes equipment and services that support the safety and independence of the person you care for in their home. Telecare services range from a basic community alarm service, using a pendant alarm, that is able to respond to an emergency to an integrated system that includes detectors or monitors (ie to detect motion, falls, fire and gas) that trigger a warning to a response centre.
Carers Bucks works with the County Council to raise awareness of the benefit of telecare to support carers in their caring role. We have a Telecare Adviser who visits our support groups to talk about and demonstrate telecare equipment. This can be followed up by an individual consultation and, if appropriate, a referral to the County Council for an assessment for telecare equipment.

"My dad agreed to use Telecare services and this has greatly improved our lives. The installation was simple and he now has a falling sensor which will alert a control centre automatically if dad falls and is unable to press the button. My regular visits are now mainly social and this has kept him independent and our relationship has benefited".
A comment from one of our carers, who cares for his elderly father.
A Buddi is a small device which can track the
person wearing it. It means that if the person
wanders off and gets lost then they can be
located quickly. It is particularly useful for
someone who has dementia or a learning
disability, giving carers peace of mind that if
the person they care for wanders off they can
be found quickly.
If you are going away with someone who has
dementia, a learning disability or autism
you might want to consider using the Buddi
system. Units can be borrowed for up to 28
days and carers are asked to pay a small
refundable deposit. You will need to be sure
that the person will wear the device and not
take it off.
If you are interested in borrowing a Buddi contact the Aylesbury office.
