Disability Living Allowance (DLA) is a benefit for adults and children who find it difficult to care for themselves because they have a physical or mental disability. To claim DLA your child must need a lot more help or supervision than other children of the same age.
There are two parts to the benefit:
You can claim for care needs before a child is aged three months, but benefit will not be paid before the child reaches the age of three months unless they are paid under ‘special rules’ ie if the child has a terminal illness, which means they get benefit more quickly and easily.
