Working Carers

There are around 3 million working Carers in the UK dealing with the stresses of what might seem like two jobs – one paid, one unpaid. But with the right support, both roles can be undertaken successfully. Local authorities must now take into account a Carer's wish to work or undertake training when doing a carers' assessment. Taking on a caring role should not mean that you must automatically think you have to give up work.

You may feel unable to mention your caring role at work in case you are seen as less able to do your paid job. An understanding and knowledgeable employer or manager can make all the difference to whether or not you feel able to seek support. Find out about the policies your employer has that might support you as a Carer and be informed when you approach your manager.
