Carers Support Groups

Carers Milton Keynes runs a large number of support groups throughout the area for Carers. They vary in style, timing and programme, being led by the needs of those who attend. Between them they provide places to relax, share experiences with other Carers and gain useful information and knowledge. A group can offer:

Someone to talk to - when it’s hard to speak to family or friends, other Carers can listen and help, because they’ve been through it too. You may also be able to help other Carers. Caring can be a very isolating experience. Carers are often excluded from the things others take for granted, such as having a social life or continuing with a hobby, because of the demands of their caring role. Support groups aim to overcome this isolation.

Advice and information - from other Carers, visiting speakers and Carers Milton Keynes staff.

A chance for time out - groups provide the opportunity to laugh together, share worries and make new friends. Many groups organise social functions and outings.

A way of keeping in touch - Carers Milton Keynes staff and speakers provide updates on news and issues that affect Carers and those they care for. Groups can also be an important voice for Carers, highlighting their priorities and needs to eg County and District Councils, the Primary Care Trust.

If you would like to attend a support group, but have difficulty with transport or in leaving the person you care for, contact us.
